Meals Bring Hope to Children in Northern Uganda
On April 29, 2026, the Diocese of Northern Uganda carried out a food distribution exercise at Christ Church Child and Youth Development Centre (CYDC) in Gulu, providing critical nutritional support to vulnerable children and families within the community.
At the New Wineskins Hope for the Nations 2025 Conference, The Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross donated funds for 30,000 meals to be packed by attendees with Kids Around the World. Through the partnership with tBishop Godfrey Loum from the Diocese of Northern Uganda and Christ Church Child and Youth Development Center these meals were received and used to address urgent nutritional and health needs. What a beautiful way for the body of Christ to come together to meet the needs of children!
Christ Church Child and Youth Development Centre is a project under the Diocese of Northern Uganda that focuses on child development. Through its programs, the centre currently supports 498 beneficiaries by nurturing children and youth physically, spiritually, cognitively, and socially.
The ministry provides educational support, medical assistance, nutritional supplementation, and enrichment opportunities designed to help children thrive despite challenging circumstances. At the heart of the project is a commitment to caring for the whole child and helping families experience hope, dignity, and stability.
This recent food distribution effort focused specifically on supporting some of the community’s most vulnerable individuals, including malnourished children, children living with sickle cell disease, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
In total, 278 households benefited from the distribution, impacting more than 622 children and caregivers throughout the region.
The Diocese received 139 boxes of fortified meal blend from Kids Around the World. Each box contained 36 packets of “One Meal” nutritional supplement, helping provide families with much-needed nourishment during a difficult season.
While food assistance meets an immediate physical need, the impact reaches far beyond nutrition alone. For many families, this support is a reminder that they are not forgotten. Through partnerships rooted in compassion and faith, children and caregivers are receiving encouragement, practical care, and renewed hope for the future.
The Diocese of Northern Uganda remains committed to strengthening communities through ministry initiatives that care for both physical and spiritual wellbeing. Through continued partnerships and faithful support, Christ Church Child and Youth Development Centre continues to be a place where vulnerable children are nurtured, empowered, and reminded of their God-given value.
